The
Silk Road
2008
40" X 56"
This is an unusual take on
a log cabin done in a workshop with
Rebecca McClure at Sewing Arts Center in Santa Monica. The point of
the
class was to use silks just like any other fabric as long as they are
treated correctly. It was easy to line the yardage with Pellon Bi-stretch
interfacing and then cut and sew the strips. The border was made from
extra
blocks cut in half and pieced together.
It was layered with silk batting and a cotton silk blend as a backing
- very
luxurious. It was quilted with metallic thread on a domestic machine.
