Up at the Villa with Michael

"Up at the Villa with Michael" was made as a result of a Black and White and One Color challenge at
the Santa Monica Quilt Guild.

Made in memory of a beloved friend who was a great Roman scholar and coin collector, I used my own photographic images from the Getty Villa in Malibu, a place that my friend loved.

The images were printed out in black and white on cotton, colored and toned with Tsukineko inks, Fabrico markers and watercolor pencils and then machine appliquéd onto a pieced background. It was machine quilted in rayon and cotton threads and then hand beaded.
