The Rose

2009

This small quilt was inspired by a workshop with B.J. Adams in which she taught her free motion thread lace technique on washaway stabilizer. The flower head on the rose was made with that technique and was then applique'd onto a cotton background.

The leaves were raw edge applique'd and subsequently thread painted along with the rose stem and thorns onto Cherrywood
hand dyed cotton. The border is a mottled hand dye which has been couched
with beaded yarn.

"Just remember, in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lie the seed, that with the sun's love
In the spring, becomes
The Rose"

......Amanda McBroom

"The Rose" was made to be auctioned at the Santa Monica Quilt Guild Quilt Show "Explorations" in June 2009.
