Fall Fiesta

2009

19" X 50"

I was inspired by the swirling fallen leaves in the autumn landscape and the luscious color and texture of hand loomed Guatemalan fabrics and striped hand dyed cottons for this wall hanging. The leaves are falling on the background which is pieced using a combination of these fabrics.

The fall leaf motifs were all based on natural leaves collected in northern California on a breezy early November day. The shapes were transferred to hand dyed cotton sateen and fused appliquéd with satin stitch finished edges. Each leaf was naturalistically thread painted with variegated threads.

The overall quilting was stitched with metallic threads. Materials: Guatemalan hand loomed stripped cotton, hand dyed cottons, cotton batiks, wool batting, polyester, cotton and metallic threads.
