2009 - A Space Odyssey
"A Perfect Storm of Turbulent Gasses in the Omega/Swan Nebula "

2009
37 1/2 X 31

When I looked online at the Hubble Space Telescope site and became fascinated with the amazing images beamed back to scientists on Earth I knew that there was a quilt there. This image in particular would not let me go.

This is a wholecloth quilt painted on cotton sateen usinh Tsukineko inks, acrylic fabric paints, watercolor pencils and watercolor crayons. The free motion quilting was done with silk, rayon and very lustrous polyster threads. It is embellished with swarovsky crystals and glass beads

Juried into "SAQA Frontiers: Art Meets Science" a traveling SAQA exhibit which will debut at the Festival of Quilts, 2010, at the NEC, Birmingham, UK in
August, 2010.
